Eclipse Season: A Time to Pause, Reflect and Return to Yourself

The summer is flying by and I am starting my way back to our regular meetups here and through our neuro-mindful newsletters. And what I wanted to discuss first and foremost is this beautiful electric eclipse season August offers this year...

This August brings a powerful invitation to slow down, tune in and make space for what is shifting within. Eclipse season can be a beautiful reminder that life moves in cycles: of light and shadow, action and rest, letting go and beginning again.

On Wednesday 12 August, a total solar eclipse will be visible along a path through Greenland, Iceland and northern Spain, while London will experience a striking partial eclipse, with up to 91% of the Sun covered at its peak (around 6:15pm UK time/ 7:15pm Central EU). Later in the month, on 27–28 August, a deep partial lunar eclipse will be visible across parts of Europe, Africa and the Americas.

Whether you connect with eclipses spiritually, astrologically or simply as extraordinary moments in nature, this season offers a meaningful pause point:

An opportunity to come back to your body, your breath and what matters most.

Light, shadow and the space between

Eclipses naturally hold the symbolism of duality.

The sun and moon.

Light and shadow.

Movement and stillness.

The outer world and our inner landscape.

We can often feel pressure to stay “on”: to be productive, decisive, clear and constantly moving forwards. But nature does not operate this way. The sun rises and sets. The moon waxes and wanes. There are seasons for expansion and seasons for rest.

This eclipse season, rather than forcing an answer or rushing into change, ask yourself:

  • Where might I need to pause before I push forwards?

  • What am I ready to see more honestly?

  • What has become too heavy to keep carrying?

  • What would it feel like to meet myself with more softness?

You do not need to have a dramatic revelation. Sometimes the most powerful shift is simply noticing what your body has been trying to tell you.

A nervous-system invitation

Periods of uncertainty, transition or emotional intensity can draw us out of the present moment and into overthinking. This is where gentle, body-based practices can be especially supportive.

A slower breath, time outdoors, mindful movement and moments of stillness can help us reconnect with a greater sense of steadiness. Slow belly breathing and meditation are among the practices commonly used to support relaxation and vagal tone, while time in nature can also create a sense of awe and connection.

This is not about “fixing” yourself or making every feeling disappear. It is about creating enough internal space to respond to life with awareness rather than reacting from overwhelm.

Try this simple practice when you need a reset:

  1. Place one hand on your heart and one on your belly.

  2. Breathe in gently through the nose.

  3. Let your exhale be slightly longer than your inhale.

  4. Repeat for five slow rounds.

  5. Ask yourself: What do I need most in this moment?

Let the answer be simple. It may be rest. A walk. A boundary. A conversation. A glass of water. Five minutes away from your phone.

A final reflection

Eclipse season does not demand that you become someone new overnight.

It simply asks you to notice the balance that is already available to you: the sun and moon, effort and ease, grounding and growth. Let this be a time to release the need to have everything figured out, and to return to the wisdom that lives beneath the noise.

You are allowed to rest.

You are allowed to change.

You are allowed to take the next step gently.
